A glow spread outward, pale silver, waiting for the others.
Caelum stepped forward first, baring his teeth but laying his palm against one arc. The glow flared red, like embers in a forge. Lucien followed, shadows dripping off his hand as the next arc went black-violet. Finally, Nora knelt beside me. She hesitated, her lips parting, and I caught the faint tremor in her fingers. She’d given so much of herself already, more than any of us deserved. But she pressed her palm down, and golden flame roared through the last branch, knitting the whole circle together.
