When I finally step into the hallway, the whispers return, softer this time but heavier. “She’s cursed.” “The rulers marked her. She won’t last the week.” “The curse of the Moon is already taking hold.” I clutch the edge of my apron and walk faster, ignoring the chill that slides down my spine. Because deep down, I know they’re right. Something inside me is changing. My dreams have been darker, filled with whispers I can’t understand and glowing chains that pulse beneath my skin. And every time one of them—Kaelen, Valrik, or Caelir—gets too close…the mark on my throat burns hotter.

" They change in the full moon, they are uncontrollable in their wolf form and it is rumoured that they are at the top of their strength whenever there is a full moon." I looked at the back of the book to see when it was published. But there was no date. I tried checking when it was made known, but there was nothing. "Humph." I let out a disappointing tone, and continued reading. A few hours passed… If there is something about me, it is being oversensitive to a lot of things. And what am I being sensitive too right now? It is this book. I slammed the novel on my table. And stood up. The novel was a very sad one - A very sad one it is.

"Bring us the book, and we'll help you find Lily." I felt a cold pit form in my stomach. The Book of the Moon was one of the things that had driven a deep wedge between wolves and witches, a relic of power snatched away in a time of strife. To retrieve it would be nearly impossible and dangerously provocative. The book was believed to hold all the secrets of how to draw power from the moon. It was also something that could endanger the lives of all wolves. I had never seen the book. I didn’t even know if it was a real thing to me. It just sounded like something of stroys that our parents told us.

I leaned against the cold stone, catching my breath, letting my mind go back to how I’d ended up here. It started with a journal. Selene’s mother’s journal. I’d found it weeks ago in the pack’s dusty archives, looking for answers about the strange howl awakening in Selene—wild, untamed, dangerous. The pages were fragile, but the words burned into me: “The Moonheart sings with the howl, binding chaos to will. It lies where the first wolves fell, guarded by blood and shadow.”

But that was before she stole my husband and my life. I stop walking, I am definitely lost. Defeated I sit down on a nearby rock, rest my head in my hands and just start sobbing. I lay back on the wet moss basically giving up. It’s getting dark and I see the light of the moon in the sky. It looks like it’s a full moon tonight. The air was thick with the pull of the lunar cycle, a force so powerful that the earth seemed to pulse beneath it. Arianna stood at the window of her room, her fingers firmly brushing the cool glass. Drawn to the moon since childhood, she felt its silent dance across the night sky beckoning to her. The howl of wolves echoed through the valley below, sending a shiver down her spine.
