If only. The book keeps my attention as I wait for somebody to come back with news on my grandmother. The other myths are astounding, and it makes me wonder if they are also true. One of them being The Moonlight Wolves, a pack that existed way back whose members were immortal, recharging themselves under the moons luminous glow. Though I doubt this one, it entertains me and fills me with a childlike wonder. I see why Henry reached for this book now. "What are you reading?"

It had been hours, more , accurately, it was morning, the moon had finally bid the sky goodbye and welcomed the hot sun that splashed a faint orange rays across the tiled floor. I stood, grabbed my phone and walked out of the library, but not without putting the book back onto the shelves, making sure no one knew what I had been reading.

Elara's POV The library was larger than the entire servant quarters at Moonhowl. Shelves rose three stories high packed with more books than I had ever seen in one place. The scent of old paper and leather bindings filled the air. Sunlight filtered through tall windows casting pools of light across reading tables scattered throughout the space. It was magnificent. I stood at the entrance and felt something crack open inside my chest. All this knowledge. All these stories and histories and ideas and I could not read a single word.

"They aren't here!" Suddenly, the frantic scraping of our search was violently interrupted. It started low, a deep, chest-rattling vibration that seemed to shake the very floorboards beneath our feet. Then, it erupted. It wasn't the high-pitched, raspy screech of a human zombie. It was a massive, thunderous, bone-chilling howl that tore through the night sky just outside the walls of the lodge. It was a werewolf’s roar, but it was distorted, gurgling with wet, corrupted rage, carrying an alpha’s terrifying authority twisted by the black sickness.

The ancient wolves slowly rise. I lift my hand. "Stand with me." The courtyard fills with howls. The sound shakes the sky. The enemy hesitates. Even the Hollow King looks toward us. Kael raises his sword. "Bloodmoon!" The warriors roar. I feel my wolf surge. My golden eyes burn. The baby kicks. And something answers from beneath the earth. A deep, ancient howl. Every wolf freezes. The ground beneath Bloodmoon splits open. Gold light pours from the crack. Selene whispers the words none of us wants to hear.
