Yet, they were deep into a dire enemy territory, danger all around them, perhaps even beneath their very feet, and the best he could do was leave the work to his officers and get so drunk he couldn’t even stand up properly.
The beastmen, or whatever they were, terrified him beyond all reason. Any human foe he could meet on equal terms and there was honor to be found in the spilling of blood. These creatures were not human, though. They were stronger, faster, and cunning. Monsters stepped forth from the worst of nightmares to walk the earth. They shouldn’t—couldn’t—be real, but they were, both more and less than man. He could never show this fear to anyone.
