I grunt as I clock a warrior in his throat. “He threatened them with killing their families. We have to save as many as we can,” I yell out as I am wrestled to the ground by two warriors. These fuckers just keep coming. Suddenly, one of the idiots bites into my thigh and I look down to see he has shifted. They always underestimate my strength at first and are having to shift to take me on. Dumbasses. Kat pushes forward and pins him down in a second, snarling as she clamps down on his neck. It’s not fatal, but he will have to stop in order to focus healing or he will bleed out.

The tribal men joined too but Katana was faster and slashed through many necks, taking the toll to win the fight. One of the bandits came closer and attacked Katana with his incredible speed. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the bandit shifted into a cheetah and to my amusement, it was as big as a werewolf. A werecheetah? I had read about them in the books but never thought I would see one. He easily bashed Katana and threw her away.

Each warrior seemed to possess an ancient wisdom, their irises reflecting a tapestry of battles fought and victories won. Their movements were a study in perfection, a ballet of strength and agility that seemed to defy the laws of physics. Everybody knew that Raelynn was the most formidable warrior in the kingdom of Volar and winning against her in a one on one battle was impossible, even for the other three Commanders. The female cats with their wolf pack mates stayed to the rear for the same reason. Most of the surrounding jungle was cleared away. Dmitri could see permanent living quarters in the distance, but their enemy wasn't yet coming out to play. The Moor said they had more than three hundred cats. Suddenly, gunfire sounded in the distance and it took everything Dmitri had to hold his position. Each clan had a job and he would do his. Esta noticed the large group of enemy first, kissed her mate, and charged with the other females. "I'm winning this bet, but I'll let you win the next one."

I don’t miss as Kyria’s face pales and a small wave of fear comes off of her at the mention of the two Beta warriors of their Pride, however, I will have to address that a little later as I ask my next question. “Why the need for dominant female warriors? From my understanding, all female WereCats are extremely good fighters no matter what their rank.”

My heart locked up. “Go!” I roared to the warriors at my side. They fanned out instantly, joining the fight. I leapt the last few steps, landing between Kate and the wolf lunging for her. My claws ripped across its throat before it even realized I was there. It crumpled at my feet. “Inside! Secure the Luna!” I barked at Celia, who was already pulling Kate behind the line of warriors forming a wall. But Kate’s eyes burned at me, furious. “I’m not running!”

“And here we have delta female Jodi, and her mate Hudson.” Jodi had ginger-blonde curls and freckles over pale skin. She smiled sweetly and waved. Hudson was massive—broad-shouldered, with a man bun, but cut sides, tattoos, and a serious face. He nodded once, solemn and silent. He gave off a broody and dangerous vibe. “Hm, so I’m sitting with the upper crust of wolf society…” I muttered. “Yes, you are,” Lucas said with a wink. “Don’t listen to him,” Kate disagreed. “We’re all equals here.”

As they got in, she did not turn back but instead talked to them. “I take it that you brought what I asked for” she said as she turned her chair, which made them realize that she was holding to a cat all the while. The cat was black, with black irises that gave one creeps. Looking at the skin exposed at her collar bones made them realize that she was indeed old. She stood from the seat and walked towards them while holding the cat, which purred softly as she stroked it. “Yes, I do. They are the ones that have the special combination to make this work. I have searched and in the entire world they are the only ones who have mated human and wolf and had a viable offspring.”

They stood back to back, waiting for an attack from the unknown darkness. "A dozen, from all sides," Alex whispered. From the shadows emerged glittering cat eyes from all around. The painted warriors came away from the shadows as one. They were human-like with large ears and sharp oval eyes. They stood barely chest-high and took stealthy steps forward with spears and bows at the ready. The firelight caught the zigzags of white paint from their bodies and light metal armor, making the creatures seem rather formidable.
