Mia asked again, confused. I didn’t know how to tell her that next part; I thought she wouldn't believe me and might even call me crazy. I couldn't afford to falter. "No more," I whispered to myself, my voice firm, even as my heart trembled with trepidation. "I won't let fear dictate our fate. I'll find a way to stop Dorian, no matter what it takes." With those words, I reached deep within myself, tapping into the wellspring of my magic. Time magic, the very essence that had eluded my grasp before, beckoned to me like an old, enigmatic friend. This time, I wouldn't let it slip through my fingers.

Someone was lying about something. “No… I’m not…” “I’ll tell you the truth,” she said, her voice softening into something like a lullaby, though her eyes still burned with fury. “You are of blood and magic,” she began. My heart dipped. Magic? My skin sizzled with electricity. “Beast and sorceress,” she continued and I staggered as it clicked on my head. “Lycan and—” I cut her off. “Melbringer?” I whispered, the word foreign and jagged on my tongue.

Ivy asks. “Give me a moment,” I reply. “Come with me,” I grab her hand and take her to where some of my friends are. “Who are they?" “Some of my friends. Some vampires have special abilities. I, for example, have mind compulsion. My mom has tactile telepathy. Irene can see the future.” I point at Tracy “Tracy, she can make you see anything she wants you to see. Power of illusion,” “Well, that's cool. I wanna try,” she says.

It’s as though he’s trying to trick me, to convince me he’s kind when he truly intends malice. “I don’t have any magic.” I insist, wishing that I did. Maybe if I was magic I might be able to put a stop to the things happening here – to protect the others without bringing harm to myself. I was so preoccupied with this statement that I almost missed the second piece of information. “Exposed to what?”

“I can’t! It’ll kill me and my baby!” she screams as she jumps up, gripping her stomach. “What will?” “The magic!” she begins sobbing, covering her face with her hands. “What lies!” someone scoffs but I frown, something mom had said… “Magic does not exist,” one of the court members sneers. “It does… or elements of it do…” I say quietly.

I remark, taking a drag on my cigarette. “Hecate did not wish to associate herself with your line because, although you have magic running through your veins, everyone knows men succumb to the lust for power far faster than women do. You, Mi Rey, are a sorcerer, meaning you possess magic. The only sorcerer currently in existence in this world, for no man can possess magic save the descendants of Roja.” My eyes glimmer as I stare at her. Magic? I don’t think so…

I admitted quietly. ​That made him still. “What do you mean?” I hesitated, because saying it made it real. “Their magic,” I said. A pause. “Not all of it. Not clearly. Raina questioned. “Enough talking. I need to get you out of here before Agatha comes back,” the witch said. She began to cast a spell, and my heart dropped to my feet. “Shit, Raina!” I called out, grabbing Raina’s hand, but she squeezed mine instead. ‘I’m immune to magic,’ she said through the mindlink. ‘I think I can stop her.’ ‘What? You’re immune to magic?’ I asked, shocked to the core. ‘Yes, that was Hecate’s blessing,’ Raina answered. ‘Right now, I can shift and fight. I’ll lunge for her and pin her down. We need her alive so she can tell us what she knows.’
