“And you’re alive,” I replied. “That’s the point.”
He stilled for a second at that.
He was quick, but his instinct was to yield, to make himself smaller. I had to teach him that he didn't have to shrink to survive.
"You are not a victim, Eli," I whispered into his ear, my voice sharp enough to command his focus. "You are a storm. When they come, you don't break. You break them."
