I Can Hear Myself Blink Novels & Stories

I look at the camera and assume that whoever is watching me can hear me. "Is it possible for someone to let me know what day and time it is?" I say in a shaky tone. I look like a complete idiot but it's worth a shot. "Please?" I plead. "Please, I beg of you, please let me know if you can hear me." Silence. What did I expect? I sink back against the wall until I hear a crackling noise. It's coming from the camera.

Looking in the mirror I take in my normal appearance, my pale skin, long straight black hair. Leaning closer, I look into my own eyes, yeah just me, same old me. ‘Look closer’ The annoying, snarky voice comes. Look closer, leaning in, I look at my bright blue eyes. In an instant they flash silver. I jumped back from the mirror, what the hell was that?

Blinking a few times, I saw that everyone was looking at me like I had gone crazy. "I heard her. It was in pieces, but I heard her. She's locked up in a room, she doesn't know where she is at, and she loves me. But that's all I understood. I'm going to try and mindlink her back. I hope I can get through, and she can hear me."

I whispered. And the silver eye blinked.

He added in a trembling voice and proceeded to punch his still body in the chest, his hand passing through. Scared he pulled out his right hand, turning it over, again and again, to stare at it. It was transparent like he was fading away. He brought his left hand up and checked it to be sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. It was just the same, he could see the tiled floor. “ Don’t play this trick on me, Marco.” He warned his dead body angrily and decided to pull him up by his collar. His hands passed through once again. “ No! No!.” He whispered, the tears running down his cheeks as he withdrew his hands. “ It can't be.” He muttered in disbelief.

My deskmate, Elaine Jenkins, was the kind of girl who was born with a sharp tongue. She loved nothing more than embarrassing me in front of everyone. When I showed up in a brand-new white shirt, she sneered, "Look at the country boy who finally made it to the city. Christopher shouts, but I don’t hear him. All I hear is my own heartbeat. And then—

My vision goes blurry, the only thing I can suddenly hear is my own heart beat. I try to speak, to tell them it isn’t mine, at least not a lot of it. But nothing comes out. Nothing…then darkness.

I blink against the images of Jordan and Tristan forming in my mind, weaving through my senses. "Get a grip," I whisper to myself, and then tilt my head backwards so the water hits my face and hopefully helps shrivel this madness I'm entangled in.

I open my eyes wide and start flapping my arms trying to get up. The light hurts my eyes I feel myself slam back into whatever I am lying on. Something pushing on my chest, I can hear weird mummm mummm sound, almost like being underwater. I relax back closing my eyes breathing calmly when I open my eyes again I see I am not actually alone. There is a person in front of me. “Hello can you hear me?” but it sounds like mumumum, she waits a minute or so and then asks me again. “Hello can you hear me?” this time I hear her and give her a nod.
