He already knows. “The pull,” he says. “Yes.” I draw in a slow breath, but the worst part of the vision pushes forward. “The death isn’t the tragedy,” I whisper. His eyes lift to mine. “What happens after is.” The apartment hallway appears in my mind again. Dim lighting. A toddler sitting on the floor just outside the bathroom door. He’s holding a plastic toy, tapping it against the tile like it’s a game.

Anubis spoke first, “We heard there had been an attempt on the Lycan King’s life. Is everything ok?” Osiris nodded toward the glass window that looked into the room with Alsie and Declan. Wepwawet followed Anubis’s eyes and noticed the dead Lycan lying on the floor. “Justice Rana style.” Wepwawet laughed. “Did she find out who tried to kill Dec and why, before she sliced open your friend?”
