I opened my mouth to speak, but he shook his head and nodded forwards, nudging me to look as we reached the slope.
The field dropped away into a cliff, made of terracotta red clay and falling at broken edges down to another ledge, about halfway down. Below that, the open plain stretched out to the coast, where the stars sparkled on the sea. The night blurred into the ocean, dark upon dark, stars upon stars, and it was beautiful.
“Sit with me,” Skye said, suddenly shy, suddenly bashful. I squeezed his hand, as tight as I could without hurting him, and he pulled me down on top of him. I squealed with laughter, and we sat on the damp grass together.
