The fall stopped suddenly. My body slammed against hard rock, sharp edges cutting into my back. I gritted my teeth, holding Prese tighter so she didn’t hit the ground.
I stood, looking around.
The land was strange. The ground was black stone, cracked like broken glass. A red fog covered the air, thick and bitter in my throat. The sky above us wasn’t a sky at all, but a ceiling of shifting smoke, glowing with veins of dim light.
