I Need A New Book To Read Novels & Stories

_KIMBERLY_ I stared at the bookshelf in front of me and hummed in thought. Despite me coming to the nearest bookstore to buy some books, I had no idea of what books to get. I was here in hopes of finding a new hobby. I wasn't much of a reader but the internet told me that reading was a good way to pass time. Not wanting the usual experience of looking at my phone screen or laptop, I decided to buy a real life, paperback book and I felt damn proud of that idea. But here I was, at a loss of what to book to pick.

I laugh and say, "Ha-ha Let's go. We have the get-together at Ava's and we have a party to attend tomorrow and we need our beauty sleep before the Dinner and Gala." We open the door and sit inside. While she is busy starting the car engine, I switch on my bluetooth and connect it to the speaker and start playing Taylor Swift's latest album. We drive away, singing loudly and jamming to the song. I roll down the window, allowing the cold wind to enter. I look outside, admiring the beauty of my neighbourhood and I repeat to myself that everything I achieved is definitely due to the hard work I put in. I couldn't help but think to myself,

Just laying down for five minutes and I was already bored of it. I tried not to think of anything that was happening as I tried to think of something fun to do that wouldn't waste my time unnecessarily. BOOKS. It’s been an eternity since I ever read anything so I quickly got out of bed and headed towards the library. It was dusty and dark and deserted because no one bothered to make use of it anyways but that would be beneficial to me. Can you imagine how fun it would be reading without any distractions? Twould be fun. I had barely picked up a book when the door suddenly creaked open and Marcia’s face was in sight.

Perhaps I could figure out a way to make money online, without Alexander finding out of course. A notification sound from my phone pulled me out of my thoughts and I looked down in time to see a text pop up on my screen. I dropped the book and took the phone. Kath: Please recommend another book right away. This book was firee!!! I grinned proudly and texted back. Me: Told you so. Kath: But I don’t think any other book can compare. I’ll have to take a break. I texted back “valid”, while I sat here reading a new book right after finishing one.

I flipped over to a new page and started listing down my ideas as they came. I will first visit the orphanage to see the kids there; my little friends, they must have all grown up by now. Then, the park to buy Mom some bouquets and leaves; I'll get some to plant in my room as well. Also, I have missed my favorite pastries, and I think I crave them. I'll have to go to the coffee shop and grab some The next place to visit will be the library. I need to borrow some interesting books to read, ones that I can resonate with, not those boring junk Adrian stacked on the shelf in my room.

She points a playful finger at me, her smile kind. Taking the hint, I retreat to the living room, feeling slightly rebuffed but understanding her concern. Not really in the mood for TV, I wander over to the massive bookcase and pull out “Emma” by Jane Austen, I've been wanting to read it since I finished “Pride and Prejudice” but we didn’t have it at the Beta’s house, and our school library didn’t stock it either. Feeling a little spark of joy at my small find, I curl up on the sofa to start reading, letting the quiet of the room wrap around me like a comforting blanket.

The library was quiet, the afternoon sunlight filtering through the stained-glass windows. Anna sat alone at the far corner, the mysterious book, The Reflection Game, spread open before her. Her finger traced the intricate designs on the yellowed pages, her heart pounding with both excitement and unease. The cryptic instructions whispered to her, their meaning elusive but tantalizingly close. She didn’t understand why she felt so drawn to the book, but she couldn’t let it go. It was as if the book had chosen her, as if it were calling her to uncover its secrets.

“Since you’re back, are you going to pick the next book?” I blinked. “Me?” “Of course,” she said, smiling. “You’ve been gone. You deserve the honor.” Everyone nodded expectantly. I looked down at the stack of books on the table, my fingers brushing across their covers. My hand paused on a novel about love, identity and societal expectations. This book will give them a glimpse of what I passed through during my absence. I smiled softly. “How about this one?” Brent groaned. “Oh no, not another depressing tragedy. Can’t we read something with a hopeful romance?”

I wanted to read, to do something that reminded me of normalcy. I looked at my growing shelf of books and decided to pick Pride and Prejudice. It was one of my favorite books as I was a sucker for romance novels. I flipped to the first page and began. "It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

I needed a distraction, something to occupy my mind and make me forget about all the troubles and worries that plagued me. I looked around the room, searching for something to do, and my eyes landed on the stack of books I had collected over the years. I hadn't read any of them in a while, but now seemed like the perfect time to dive into one of them. I walked over to the bookshelf and ran my fingers over the spines, trying to decide which one to pick.
