The entire field turns to look at us. The loud mouthed boy looks shocked before he falls to the ground and clutches is bleeding arm, crying. “Anyone else?” I turn completely around to the group of boys who are all silent and shaking their heads. “Right! Gather round and we can start. If you wish to see the pack doctors, go. But know I won’t wait for you or catch you up. The bullet didn’t hit anything vital, it went straight through and because you’re a wolf the bleeding has already stopped and will be healed in a few minutes.”

I ran with my head down trying to avoid the bullets which came around like bugs in my ears. “Come back here!” She yelled running out of the house while trying to reload the pistol. I had just escaped death. I wasn't going to hang around long enough to see if I had a second life. Head down, I tore through the woods like a rabbit with the knowledge that a serial killer was right in my tracks. If she caught up with me, I was doomed. It wasn't until I heard the sound of glaring sirens that I realized that I've just run into the trap of the one person I had been running away from the entire time.

It takes me ten minutes to avoid the pack soldiers and be out of the den. It’s then that I begin running. It's while I'm running that I realize, I don't know where I'm going. I know Lucas is not at the treehouse because he's been sent on a mission. My father is also being sent on a mission to another pack. If I go to the treehouse, Hunter can track me down there. I don't stop running however. I have to get as far away as I possibly can. And then I hear the soft foot falls surrounding me and I look to my side, I see my wolf pack running besides me.

Breaking away from the hiding spot, I caught the attention of one of the wolves and sprinted towards the main house. Adrenaline surged through my veins as I relied on the skills I had developed during our days of evading capture. Despite feeling tired, I pushed myself to the limit, determined to outrun my pursuer. With each stride, the gap between us widened in my favor. I could hear the heavy footsteps behind me, the breaths of my relentless pursuer growing louder.

He could hear the nurses shouting behind him but he wasn’t going back. From the time he had been awake in the clinic, he had strategized how to take off. It wasn’t difficult to do because the staff at the clinic weren’t as many. Another thing he couldn’t stop thinking of was the fire that killed Walu’s family. That was no ordinary fire, he thought to himself.

I hesitated at first, not wanting to leave her, but I had to do what she said. As I ran, my thoughts were clouded with grief and pain. I heard the hunters getting closer, but I couldn't stop. I stepped on something that felt like a trap, and suddenly, my leg was in excruciating pain. I tried to shake it off, but the pain wouldn't go away. Just then, one of the hunters spotted me. He called on the others, and they circled around me. I was trapped, and I didn't know what to do. Fear consumed me, and I felt tears welling up in my eyes.

And then she broke into a run, fleeing to the left while I struggled to pull myself together and race through the left side of the point where we had gotten separated. I didn’t look back as I ran, I tuned out the cries of the women and every other sound in the forest as I ran with reckless abandon. And the only time I stopped to look behind me, I realized the hunter hadn’t been after me after all. I broke down in tears.

It can only be the motherfucker! The arsehole won’t catch me again. I swear on my life. This time, I’m running away from him for good, even if I have to hide my whole life. I’ll live in caves and lie with lions if it means I won’t marry Hunter—that is the least I can do for myself. However, before I realize what’s going on, I’m stumbling and crashing down a steep slope. Small rocks batter my body, eliciting grunts from me as pain radiates through me. It scrapes my skin, my bones cramping, and my head spinning until I feel myself plunge into a cold stream with a splash.

He groaned in pain. I quickly ran to the main door and peeped, thankfully no one was guarding it. I guess they underestimated me. As I stepped out I headed into the bush instead of going into the hunter’s den pack land. I ran fast in the forest, unaware of where the forest leads to. My feet were hurt and bleeding from scratches I have been getting from fallen tree branches and thorns. I knew Kieran and his men must have known I had escaped by now and were after me. I can’t stop now to rest, I need to keep going.
