Impossible. “She survived” “No!” another voice muttered. “No one survives it.” the creature shifted behind me, towering and twisted but it still didn’t attack. Its hollow eyes remained fixed on me with something dangerously close to recognition. Like it had found something it lost a very long time ago. Then one of the elders stepped forward. Slowly and carefully. His hands trembled around the lantern he carried. I recognized him suddenly through fractured childhood memories. The man who used to avoid looking directly at me when I was little. The man my mother hated.

Jamie in his usual disturbing manner started wailing noisily. “No, no, sweetie, daddy is here now. You don’t have to cry anymore. Daddy is here for you. I will give you the entire world and write your name in the moon. I am Sole Survival now.” Between Eva and Stella I didn’t know who wailed harder but Stella was astonished to see that Sole Survivor was Brian and he was alive and not dead as expected. A few footsteps clicked into the ward; it was the doctor, a middle aged man who was full of smiles.

"Wendy, hurry up. I've got a surprise for you." Gideon Cross stood at the edge of the grove, waving me over. The golden light of the setting sun fell across his face. His smile was warm and familiar, reminding me of the more than two thousand days we had spent side by side. I had barely taken a step when several glowing lines of text suddenly flashed across my vision. "Don't go. There's a sulfuric acid trap in the grove."

, Croads, a middle-aged woman with brown hair and glasses, said. Except, it's not. She's dealing with enough right now. "Are you close with the victim?", SSA Briggs questioned, looking at me curiously. Briggs is practically a teenager, with shaggy blonde hair, very thin. "She's not a victim. Don't call her that. Her name is Amelia, and she's a survivor", I couldn't stop the words from flowing from my mouth. "The only one", Briggs uttered. "So you are close to her? Have you considered that being the reason for not catching him yet?", Croads said coldly. "Croads", Loveless snapped, shaking his head at her.

When I woke up, I was lying in a sealed hospital room at the institute medical center. For a moment, I thought I was still in Dante’s old medical room, and fear dragged me awake before I could think. “Don’t touch me…” “Aria, it’s me.” Professor Shaw’s voice pulled me back. She sat beside the bed, still wearing the same dark coat from that night. Behind her stood the project doctor and a woman from the institute’s legal team. “You’re safe now,” Professor Shaw said.

Some even broke into Owen's house while the Alpha and Luna were away, and stole what little water and food remained.
