Diana The comfortable silence that had settled between us was like a warm blanket, soothing and safe. A thought suddenly flashes in my mind. About the whispers I had heard—of alliances, of expectations tightening around him like a snare. About whether this… whatever this was… had an ending he had already accepted. Instead, I said, “This cannot last.”

Facing opposite directions like little kids do—except neither of us is little anymore and we never got the chance as kids. Midnight crawls away, the house begins to breathe silently. I asked, keeping my voice neutral. "I-I can explain," she stuttered, making me chuckle in disbelief. "I'm not even mad at you; what I want to know is: would you have told me if I never heard your thought?"

“Don't you get tired of it?? He asked suddenly. “What?” I asked. “Thinking so much” he replied. I almost smiled. “Always.” “Then why do you do it??” He asked. “You're saying there's a way not to think?” I countered. “Yep.” “I don't think that's true” I told him. “Really?” The challenge in his voice made me look over. “Because I've been known not to think, Jessica.
