Five Years Too Late, Ex-husband!
It is double stupid because if she lies and I find out the truth later on my own, she and her family are dead.
She swallows hard, trying to catch her breath. She wipes her nose with the back of her trembled hand.
“I'll talk,” she whispers. “I'll tell you everything. Just please, don't hurt me.”
I stand upright, crossing my arms over my chest. I decide not to sit because there is no point and I'm too impatient to hear what she has to say.
“Start talking… from the very beginning.”
“A woman approached me,” she says, her voice tiny and shaking. “It was at the party right before the main event started. I was in the back hallway by the kitchen, setting up the drink trays.”
