Irish ordered at them. "Let me wish first Daddy!" Bethena said, sparkling her eyes in the candles of her cake. "Hahaha. Okay my baby. Make a wish now," Basil said. "My wishes are to have lots of siblings and we become a happy family forever." Bethena start blowing one by one all the candles. "Daddy it's your turn." "Okay, Baby," Basil chuckled, looking at Irish. "What are you looking at?" Irish asked, raising her eyebrow. "Make a wish now."

Cal whispers, kissing me in different places every time he adds a new wish to his infinite list. I chuckle, a joy bubbling up within me so foreign I hardly recognize myself. It’s overwhelming, but in a good way. Meeting Cal was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Sometimes, I can’t even believe he’s mine. Life has changed so much for me, and if someone told me this is how it was going to be, I wouldn’t have believed them. But now that I have him, I can’t imagine it being any other way. Julissa’s heart thudded wildly, yet oddly sweet. He went on: “Lastly, please forgive my cowardice. Forgive me for walking away. I hope you find someone who truly matches your rhythm and background. I wish you happiness. And I hope, Mr. Nichols, you’ll wish the same for me.” He scoffed and looked at her. “If you really dared do that, I wouldn’t wish you happiness. I wouldn’t forgive you. I’d drag you back and show you what a real golden cage looks like.” Julissa trembled, swallowed hard, and whispered, “Um… you missed a line.”

Iris’s lips curved slightly. “Now you’ll live a healthy life,” she whispered, like it was some divine truth. I frowned. What? “What?” I murmured, brows furrowing. She put her hands on her hips, completely serious. “Well, I made a wish,” she said matter-of-factly. “And you blew on the dandelion.” I stared. “…And?” She blinked at me, like I was slow. “So now it’ll come true. Obviously.”

“What is this weather? I hate rain.” Beth ignores my complaints, pulling me onto the ferry along with everyone else. As soon we get on, I see the vast lake. I rub my eyes, blinking. The fog is covering the lake as well, so it’s hard to see anything but it seems creepy and I’m starting to regret my decision. But then, Beth takes my hand with her cold hand, and she looks at me. “We’ll be fine, right?” I swallow back this sick fear inside of me and give her an uncertain smile. “Yeah, of course.”
