It came out choked, but it was laughter all the same. She looked so proud of herself for making me do it that I had to keep laughing. “God, you are ridiculous,” I said, shaking my head.

I gritted out. He sits up straight again. "Okay, hold up man. But she hasn't tried anything crazy since you found her in your house, right?" "Not yet, but I know she will soon. She is a fucking lunatic!" I said and gulped the remaining drink in my glass. Carter burst into laughter again. He doesn't know how angry I am right now. Everything is always a joke to him until I punch that silly face that he uses to deceive girls. "Sorry dude, can't help it. This is so fucking hilarious. He made me laugh, a genuine, bubbling sound that felt good after the fear. “Your turn,” he challenged, when he finished. “Tell me a joke. Something to keep the darkness at bay.” I thought for a moment. “Okay, okay… What do you call a fake noodle?” He raised an eyebrow, a slight smile playing on his lips. “What?” “An impasta!” I delivered the punchline with a flourish, and he actually laughed, a deep, booming sound that warmed the room. “Alright, alright, that was a good one, for a rookie,” he teased. “My turn. "Go ahead. It's a free country." For the next twenty minutes, the entire chaotic room seemed to blur into white noise. We actually talked. Like really talked. Jaxon leaned across the table, his arms crossed over his leather varsity jacket, pouring his heart out about how stressed he was with the upcoming college football scouts. He talked about his dad’s crushing expectations, the brutal late night practices, and the fear of messing up his future. Then, right out of nowhere, he made this stupid, brilliant joke about our chemistry teacher’s lopsided toupee that had me laughing so hard I almost choked on my water.

You’re lying.” Jace just shrugs, wearing that boyish grin that makes it hard to tell when he’s serious. “Swear on my life,” he says, holding up two fingers like we’re in court. “The dude actually mistook my cologne for pepper spray and ran into a trash can.” “Oh my God—” I wheeze, nearly tipping over as I slap his arm. “You’re the worst.” "Your mouth's gonna hurt even more if you keep laughing like that," he says, but his tone is gentler now, almost careful.

Judy said. "Already did." She smiled. "Told them I had a health crisis, JJ would have had my head if I didn't reach out to him before the end of the day." Carly joked. Judy laughed, "They thought you were ditching them." "I always ditch them, they should be used to that by now." Carly laughed. "They would soon kick you out of the team, and you would end up graduating next year." Judy joked. "I would just drop out." Carly joked I'm a sassy manner.

I'm sure if someone found out or overheard our conversation, we would both be upset. And another one with Caleigha and Isaiah. "What? Are you going to be quiet?" I blinked. "That's not a good b-joke," was all I could say. He laughed sarcastically. Can't believe what I said. "Do you think I can joke like that? The fact that I liked you since the first time I saw you is just a joke to you?" I didn't answer and just looked at the floor. "It's a big joke. You almost couldn't make your debut when you thought about it. You're always scolded in training. You've been warned a few times. Then it's just a joke to you?"

'' Jeffrey chipped in and they did their stupid hand clap. "You said what?" Arian's tone murderously went colder. "Woah man! I was just joking. Gosh, you should've seen your freaking face!'' Ricky said and laughed out. "Hope you had that on camera?" He turned to give Jeffrey a warning look. Arian also turned to see Jeffrey putting away his phone. "You're darn right I did!" He smirked and they chuckled again. "Idiots." Arian cussed under his breath and glared at them.

At my sudden question, Cassius stared at me. “...” “Because their horns don’t work,” I said and chuckled. “...” He blinked his eyes as is he finally realized that I am saying a joke. But it felt awkward that he did not smile a bit.
