Before I could fully register it, Fletcher stepped in front of me, blocking my view entirely.
“Yo,” he said, snapping his fingers once. “Are you alive?”
I blinked, pulling my attention back.
“Yeah.”
“Good,” he nodded. “Because you look like you’re about to murder someone.”
“Tempting,” I muttered, then he snorted.
“Yeah, well, don’t do it here. I just cleaned my skates.”
I huffed a small breath, shaking my head.
The noise in the room picked up again, conversations shifted and my attention moved on from Maxine to other things but my mind didn’t, it stayed stuck her.
