Icebreakers Book Pages Novels & Stories

she seems determined to make me fail this one. "Good. I'll choose a page of the book and you will have to recite it for me!" It was fair to the girls because they read the book on the week of the test, but she's trying to fuck me up. And she would if I didn't have a photographic memory. "Let's start. Chapter 27, page 389!" It's a huge book, with 752 pages. Watering my lips with my tongue, I began to recite every single word of it.

Answers escaped me, slipping through my fingers like the snowflakes outside my room window. I forcefully snapped the book shut, and the loud clap echoed through my room, breaking the silence that had surrounded me and snapping me back to reality. Sorry, sweet room of secrets; you had given me comfort, but instead, you had pushed me into the heart of my storm. I needed air—fresh, clear air, and to get away from the suffocating remnants of my solitude.

I flipped it in the next page but I only saw a blank page, all of the pages were now pure white like nothing is really written in there. "What are you doing?" I almost jumped in surprise after hearing a voice beside me. "Nothing," I answered and closed the book. His eyes widen just by looking at the cover of it. "Have you seen something in that book?" "Just the first page" I answered but he seemed so shocked by my answer. "First page?" He asked like I just did the most imposable thing in the world. "Yeah, this one." I flipped the book to the first page but it became blank suddenly. I just saw it a while ago! How did it happen? I checked all of the pages thinking that it must be in somewhere

At first glance, it was just a record of betrayal—shell companies, offshore routing numbers, and signatures that looked suspiciously like forgeries of all four brothers. "Wait," Lila said, leaning in. She pointed to the bottom corner of page twelve. "Look at the page numbers. They aren't sequential." I frowned, looking closer. The page numbers didn't run 1, 2, 3. They ran 11, 4, 18, 9, 1. "It's a book cipher," I whispered, my heart beginning to race. I grabbed a notepad and a pen. Using the page numbers as coordinates against the first letter of the first word on each page, a message began to emerge. It wasn't a list of traitors. It was a warning from the Chairman’s past.

Scratching the side of my head trying to ease the tension my headband is causing I fiddle around with the book. My fingertips trace the page sweeping past the hares in plain sight. Where are the res- What was that? I felt something, it halted the smoothness of my path. I begin to trace the page again my eyes widening when I find a small hidden partition within the page. Digging my nails into the small layer I begin to tug on it. It seems as though there is an opening or a block that I can remove. "You have twenty seconds left. I think you might fail this one, Theia." Phobos pipes in telling me of his doubts about my accomplishment of his exercise.

It's possible, right? So, the code has four numbers. 8,9,1, and 0. But...there is no 0 on the page numbers! I opened the book to page 8. I looked at that page and just like the other pages, there seemed to be nothing strange written there. I stared intently at the page and read some sentences on it.

Eva was a bit surprised when I used the term ‘we’. “Yes, Eva…. I said ‘we’. I want to protect my baby but I can’t neglect others either. But, for now, please eat your breakfast. I will search for the book.” I reassure her as I trotted up the stairs. I didn’t want to give her a chance to refuse. I found the book on the broken table. Turning the pages carefully, I realized that it was a very ancient book. Even the pages seemed to be made of some other material. Eventually, I reached the page that was torn. It wasn’t a neat tear. It looked as if someone had torn it hastily or maybe accidentally.

Reiya: Turn to the last few pages of that book and you will notice something. I opened the book and started surfing the last few pages of the book and to my surprise there really was something in the book. A page torn in half and in the half that was still attached to the book were three letters that ended at the torn part and seem to have no connection to everything that I have learned up to date. Those letters were ''NEA-''

Unlock it, and the empty pages shall be filled for you to read. I stare at the words for a long time. Read them again. And again. “What does that even mean,” I mutter under my breath. Within me. Unlock it. Empty pages. I flip to the next page. Blank. The one after that. Blank. I start flipping faster now. Page after page after page, all clean, untouched, mocking me with their silence. No hidden ink. No symbols. No diagrams. Nothing. Just white paper. My grip tightens on the book until my knuckles ache.

he flipped through the pages with exaggerated care— “I’d throw hands.” I huffed a laugh. “I didn’t dog-ear the pages, if that’s what you’re worried about.” “I saw a suspicious bend on page seven.” “You’re making that up.” “Am I?” He looked at me, that same smug expression back in full force, like the missed call hadn’t happened at all. Like he hadn’t just clenched his jaw so hard I thought his teeth might crack. But I let him pretend. Because maybe this wasn’t the time to pry. Maybe whatever that call was about—whatever it was dredging up inside him—he needed to face on his own terms.
