When the fever finally reduced two hours later, relief flooded through me. My head cleared and my vision sharpened. I let out a sigh and reached for Lana, only to freeze. Lana's body was too hot, her forehead was burning, like fire. Her face was flushed red, her tiny body trembling, her nose wrinkled in pain.

"What… what's happening to me?" Nina's voice emerged as barely a whisper, swallowed by the darkness pressing in around her. Her skin burned as though fire ran beneath it, heat spreading through her body in relentless waves that seemed to have no end. Every breath felt too heavy, too hot, as if she were inhaling smoke instead of air. The atmosphere around her seemed to thicken and congeal, making it harder and harder to form a coherent thought. Her mind grew sluggish, weighted down by the fever consuming her.

Stripped of her only physical support, Luna slides down the rough brick, collapsing onto the freezing pavement like a broken ragdoll. "Luna?" Nathan drops to his knees, gripping her shoulders to pull her up, only to realize her skin is burning with an unnatural high fever. "I'm so hot...it burns," Luna whimpers, her voice reduced to a hoarse rasp. "I am taking you to the hospital," Nathan declares, scooping her trembling body into his arms. "Nathan...I'm so hot. Please, help me," Luna sobs uncontrollably, her restless, feverish lips pressing sloppy, desperate kisses against his exposed neck and collarbone as he carries her to his waiting Bentley.

Just then she threw up and began crying. “Mommy!” She sobbed. Jasmine opened the door and gasped as she took in what was happening. “Oh my sweet little girl, it’s okay,” she said as she pulled Lilly into her arms. “Uh Sweetie,” Lucian started to say. “Come on, let’s get both of you in the bath,” Raze said as he pulled his shirt that he was slipping on down over his chest. “She’s running a fever,” Jasmine said as she pulled her wrist off of Lilly’s forehead.

Flat. "That's unusually minimalist of you." No response. Maya taps the pen against the page. "Novel respiratory illness. Fever, coughing, disorientation, unusual aggression. That is a lot of yes for someone with a thesaurus installed." Silence. Her stomach tightens. Not fear exactly. Fear runs hot. This is colder. This is the sensation of seeing a car drift across lanes far ahead and knowing the crash is coming before anyone else touches the brakes. "LUS."

My phone died with a soft beep, plunging me into darkness. "Mommy?" Lily's voice was small and scared. "I'm here, baby." "I don't feel good." I reached back and touched her forehead. She was burning up, worse than before. The fever was spiking, and I had no way to help her. No money for medicine, no insurance for a doctor. "I know, sweetheart. Try to sleep." But she was shivering now, her small body wracked with chills despite the fever. I climbed into the backseat and pulled her onto my lap, wrapping my jacket around both of us.

"My tummy hurts..." "Ms. Nala had some bad food, so she has gastroenteritis and a bit of fever, too." A woman who seemed like a nanny explained from the side. "Luckily, it's not acute. A simple IV drip should do." "So..." Lena looked at Elijah. "You called me because Nala is afraid of the butterfly needle?" I immediately looked at her and smiled widely so that she wouldn't notice me shiver but I didn't win. She touched my forehead and immediately removed her hand. "Mom, you're so hot!" She nervously said. I spoke and showed that I was fine to stop the nervousness she was feeling. "Baby, Mom is fine, okay? I'm fine because it's just a fever. We'll call Teacher Eryl later so you won't get infected." I uttered. Time passed before Eryl arrived. She still has class that's why she arrived late. I feel sorry for Nala because she hasn't eaten yet and I'm worried because of that.

Laura was thrashing beneath the sheets, her skin covered in sweat, her lips moving in a fever dream.

And before long, Nina developed a fever. Leonardo rushed her to the hospital, leaving Nico at home with Ana. Lorenza moved around the hospital room, acting every bit the concerned guardian when it came to Nina. Meanwhile, Leonardo sat by Nina’s side as her fever refused to drop.
