Outside the nightmare, Laura brushed Luke’s damp hair from his forehead, her hands trembling. “He’s burning up,” she whispered, her voice thick with worry.
Samuel knelt beside her, his eyes scanning Luke’s face for any sign of recognition. “He’s fighting something,” he murmured. “I just don’t know if it’s the fever or…” His voice trailed off, leaving the unspoken words hanging in the air.
