I knelt beside her immediately, my hand brushing against her forehead. Her skin was burning hot, her body dangerously feverish.

In that brief moment, she felt a pain in her chest, which made her very sad. But in a few seconds, the illusionary face quickly disappeared. She suppressed her emotions. Kai noticed she looked strange. So, he asked, "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?" Lana responded, "I–It's nothing!" The two of them then got into the car and left. In the bedroom upstairs, Madelyn did not even know she had a high fever. She slept for two days because of this sickness.

I looked at Lachlan and he answered, looking tired as hell and worried, “She has a fever. The doctor gave her an injection and said to wait for an hour. If the fever doesn’t break she will have to be hooked up to IV and machines and will need extensive care.”

They were on me. “You’re walking too loud,” he said, voice low but sharp. “I’m walking exactly as loud as I want to,” I shot back. He didn’t smirk. “That’s exactly my problem.” Before I could tell him to bite me, Kaela stumbled. Lira caught her, muttering something soft, and I realized the girl’s eyes were glassy. “She’s burning up,” Lira said. “Fever.” Roman swore. “In this place, that’s bad news.”
