Clad in armor that seemed to glow with spectral light, the rider wielded a whip that crackled with dark energy. "It's him," Silas whispered, his voice trembling with recognition. "It's my father." The others turned to Silas, shock and confusion etched on their faces. "Your father?" Marinetta asked, trying to piece together the implications. Silas nodded, his eyes never leaving the ghostly figure. "He died many years ago, but it seems his spirit has returned, driven by a need for vengeance." The ghost rider dismounted, moving towards them with a menacing grace. Silas stepped forward, his heart heavy with a mix of dread and determination.

“Tell me, have you attended Professor Draven’s combat class yet?” I groan. “Unfortunately.” Professor Starling laughs. I smile despite myself. For a while, we simply walk. The academy slowly waking around us. Students gathering and bondeds stretching. The smell of breakfast drifting through the air. Gods, the place almost feels normal. Then a massive shadow passes overhead. I look up. A gryphon. Its rider laughing as they dive through the clouds. Further away, an Ironclad dragon releases a thunderous roar that shakes the ground beneath my feet. Students barely react.

The peace of the night was shattered by a scream from the northern ridge. It wasn't the sound of a wolf. It was the sound of a hawk. A messenger-drake, its wings scorched by fire, plummeted from the sky and crashed into the center of the jasmine clearing. I was on my feet in an instant, the red-gold light of my scales flaring. Kaelen and Lucien were already there, pulling the rider from the beast's back. It was one of Lucien's Forsaken scouts. His grey eyes were wide with terror, his skin covered in a strange, shimmering blue frost.

Then a shattering cluster of sparks ignited from the sky. "What the fudge!" Carter rang out in alarm at the reddish shadow that covered the sky. "Tell me everyone's seeing that" Gabi chorused as the spectacle dominating the sky slowly formed a glimmering doorway. "It's the portal" My blue crystals glowed as if it was ignited with flames. I'll probably be the one working with those two the most,” River said. “Well, you calmed Blazer down pretty quickly. Blazer is my racing horse. He is still young, and I think he could still do great, but the fire really messed him up. The other one is Chief. Chief is my cutting horse,” Gerald said. “I’m rather impressed by how quickly you calmed him down.” Gerald’s voice held surprise and awe. “Blazer is the worst one. I’m sorry about that, Dallas.”

The Glowstones were so ridiculously bright that some evil spirits were literally hiding under rocks to escape the glare. And the Skyfeathers had brought way too much celestial wine. Every time they flew overhead, they would hear this heavenly music playing. On top of that, everyone knew what it meant for Shadowspire when the Pahanas, white tigers, Vermilion Birds, and White Aegises all showed up. Wherever those beasts went, the evil spirits did everything they could to become invisible.
