Ran Away From His Sky
Then I put my hand back on the control yoke.
Tower cleared me for takeoff.
I advanced the throttle.
The engine roared louder. Runway markings swept beneath the nose, one by one.
I reached rotation speed.
I eased back on the yoke.
The wheels left the ground.
In that moment, there was no roar like I'd imagined, and no tears.
Just quiet.
The ground fell away slowly. Rivers, forests, and rooftops spread out beneath me.
The sky that should have been mine seven years ago, the one I'd come within a single step of, had finally caught me again.
