Zeke smirked behind his mask, his grip on my arm tightening slightly; he seemed to relish in my denial, in the fact that he had struck a nerve.
“Oh, but I do,” he retorted, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous tone. “I know about your insecurities, your loneliness, your feelings of inadequacy. You try so hard to hide it all to impress that old man, but I can see through your facade, angel.”
He finally let go. I straightened up and adjusted my dress. I swallowed the lump in my throat and tried to suppress my anger at his candid words.
