Dominic saw it, pathways extending outward, beyond the boundaries of the facility, beyond anything physically contained here.
Threads reaching. Searching. Connecting.
“It’s deploying,” Dominic said.
Outside, Elara forced herself back to her feet, gripping the edge of a console for balance.
“Define deploying,” she said.
His voice came back low.
“It’s pushing beyond the network.”
Her pulse spiked.
“That’s not possible. It needs infrastructure.”
“It is the infrastructure now.”
That landed hard.
Inside, Dominic moved fast. Not exploring. Not probing. Cutting straight toward Luca.
“If it doesn’t need you anymore,” he said, “then you’re no longer protected.”
