By the fourth night , I couldn't take it anymore. The questions circled in my mind like vultures, pecking at my sanity until I had to know the truth. My aunt and uncle were locked in the castle dungeons, and every hour that passed felt like another piece of a puzzle slipping away from me. I made my way through the castle's lower levels, past guards who nodded respectfully at the beast king's mate. The dungeons were carved from the living rock beneath the castle, cold and damp with the weight of centuries pressing down from above.

Lifting a hand, I motioned for the others to stop as I continued to let my eyes take in the area. I had always known that Doragon were more primitive than other packs, but I hadn’t expected it to be to this extent. Up ahead was a large black castle with flags that rose into the sky the color of blood. Stakes with what I assumed were the heads of their enemies were scattered around the grounds. It seemed strange, so they opened the door to find darkness down a flight of stone steps. The King turned around to look at everyone, "I remember it was strange. It's a door on the floor of the dungeon's storage room." Alexi: "Dad, Ares, we need to have the castle side of the tunnels blocked. I know that there is an entrance at the back side of the castle. Another entrance must be in the castle. Is there any besides those two? We don't need any surprises! I believe we need our warriors in triplets so as not to be taken down easily while exploring the tunnels.”

I follow closely behind as he takes us in and out of trees so fast that I lose track of direction. When the castle comes into view, I’m surprised to see that it looks only like a tiny cottage. It doesn’t look like any castle that I have ever seen before. When William and I enter, he immediately takes me to the library room that has a secret entrance. The castle is an underground castle! I don't get to see any of the rooms, though, because William is rushing us forward. He eventually leads me to a room that looks like a kitchen. He pulls out a chair and motions for me to sit. "I will be right back. Do not leave. I have to go get some water." He says as he rushes out the door.

Through the king's council room. 2. Through the woods behind Ser Lancaster's barren ranch. 3. Inside the king's personal chamber on the first floor. 4. Behind the fireplace in the main living room. These four passages came to light through the king’s closest confidants. Any others, if they existed, died with him." Monty finished reading and lifted his eyes at the other two.

The expression on Sir Brochan’s face softened and I felt relieved when he smiled at me, “Yer just so new to th' pack, 'n' yit yer th' only person ah met 'ere wi' a rational mind.” “Thank you for the kind words, Sir Brochan. She shook her head, “Not a mansion. This is a fucking castle. You should look at it. It looks like it jumped out of a horror movie.” I stared blankly at her despite the fact that her words had piqued my interest. I hadn’t seen anything other than my wing and Fabiano’s room. I did get the notion that this place had the looks of a gothic mansion but I didn’t know that it was an actual castle. “So, instead of building a safe room in this place.” She cracked a little, her eyes brightened and she smiled, “He built a goddamn network of tunnels.” My tight grip on the knife flattered a little as I froze at her words.

Bram stepped into the doorway, face grim. “Your Majesty. We found him.” Rowan straightened. “Where?” “Deep storage cellars beneath the kitchens. He never left the fortress.” We left Sarlen with two guards and followed Bram down the spiral stairs descending into the absolute bowels of the fortress. With every step, the air grew noticeably heavier, thick with the smell of old grease, damp earth, and the unmistakable, sharp copper tang of fresh blood.
