As he lowered himself downwards, I took a deep breath. Then, all of a sudden, I felt white hot pain. It was so intense I was unaware of anything else in the world apart from the torturous burning. I felt helpless as I watched Austin sauntered off. Ten minutes later, I slowly pushed open the door to the wooden hut. It was pitch-black inside, and I felt unsafe. I reached forward and carefully shuffled my way in. Suddenly, someone with a strong, muscular frame grabbed me and hugged me tightly. "Ahh!" I shrieked in surprise, but quickly calmed down afterward and fell silent. I detected a familiar scent. It was Austin.

My hand went to my phone, and I called Jamie. “Hello?” he answered on the second ring. “Jamie, it’s me,” I said, my voice low, almost hesitant. “Orion… he’s sick. He’s burning up, and the burns on his back are bad. The doctor came and treated him, but he’s sleeping now.” There was a pause. I could almost hear Jamie holding his breath. “He… he’s in bed?” he finally said. “Is he okay?” I shook my head, even though he couldn’t see me. “He’s weak. Very weak. The doctor gave him medicine, bandaged the burns… but he needs rest. He shouldn’t be disturbed.”

She gasped, dropping to her knees, clutching her ribs as something inside her cracked open—like a faultline giving way to fire.
