I could not believe I was leaving the room even more burdened than before.
In the early hours of the next day, Draven and I met in a secluded area away from the pack. His magic felt very ancient and contained-wise, well within control-everything mine was not.
"Magic is like fire," he said to me. "Useful, warm, and, by all means, protective. But left unchecked, it devours everything in its path."
He showed me several simple spells while I listened intently, teaching me to direct the flow of magic rather than allowing it to take over.
It started with something easy-creating tiny sparks of flickering energy, controlling the wind. But once we tried to contain the more volatile things that I co
