After a few more flicks, the insect starts to turn blue in colour and when it completely turned blue, it exploded and a plant-like monster came out of it.

Her plate was still empty, and, having taken a sip of water, the she-wolf plunged into her thoughts. “That’s right,” Mitya remarked with a full mouth, “something tells me that soon there will be another small one in the house. Inside, a single blister beetle crawls along the smooth surface, its metallic body catching the faint light. Irena lifts the lid. The beetle climbs onto her hand immediately, as if answering. Another beetle shifts in the shadows beneath the table. And on the corner of a chair, there is another. They are never just one. She lies back on the bed, her head sinking into the pillow, and raises her hand to watch the beetle crawl across her skin, tracing the lines of her palm, pausing over the fresh cut before continuing its slow path up her wrist. Irena closes her eyes, ready to rest.

“Tatsuya and Rin. My brother. My captain. That’s my pack.” Something flickered in Inojin’s eyes, relief, maybe even a fragile hope. He stayed quiet for another moment before nodding. “Yes,” he whispered. Then firmer. “Yes. I’d love that. Thank you.” Taiga’s smile widened, this time bright and real. The sudden burst of pheromones in the room shocked everyone. Inojin’s eyes widened as the invisible weight pressed against him, making the air thick and heavy. Tatsuya’s expression tightened, instantly recognizing what Taiga was doing.

With Zephyrus too busy fighting almost fifty blood-thirsty creatures, I knew I had to fight my battle now. “Stop right there!” I screamed at her in panic, looking for an avenue to escape. “Don’t be afraid, Lena.
