And what use was a man who couldn't fight his own battles, who couldn't even hold a pen without trembling? I let out a low laugh, humorless. "I may never use this hand properly again. Do you know what that means?"

"All this." Mr. Devereaux laughed. "A cell phone video and a little influence with the hotel. Tony Warren's an old friend and glad to help. And an invitation to the owners' box at the stadium didn't hurt, either." He took her hand and urged her up from the chair. "Last night was an embarrassment for the Warrens. An old friend of Rina's took liberties she shouldn't then plastered it all over cyberspace. I can assure you that, old friend or not, she has abused both friendship and hospitality and won't be invited back."

His expression looked grim. The doctor stood across from him, sweat gathering on his forehead. "Prince, your wife's hand injuries are severe. Once they heal, she will manage daily life without much difficulty, and normal hand use should be fine. However… the kind of high-precision, fast-paced programming she used to perform will be impossible. The bones were crushed."

Would he hate himself for risking their baby or risking her hand? "Permanent damage. Loss of fine motor control. Chronic pain. Possibly complete loss of function depending on how the bones heal, and they won't heal well without intervention." Dr. Evans held his gaze. "Your wife's right wrist is the one damaged and from what your stepsister told us that's your wife's dominant hand. Mrs Young is twenty years old, Mr. Young. She has her whole life ahead of her. We need to think about her long-term quality of life. I know this might sound cold, but she can fall pregnant again if she does lose the baby, but she only has two hands."
