“Get away from me.” I looked down at my trembling hands. “What the fuck just happened?”

Levi reluctantly let go of my hand, opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could speak, I hurried away. Like avoiding a plague, I was avoiding him. What I didn't see was Levi watching my retreating figure, his chest heaving noticeably. His restrained emotions were slowly crumbling, and this time, he would never let me go of his hand. But I was far from as calm as I appeared on the surface. I was letting go of my past with Levi, but the thought of the pain he had caused me still made me resentful.

“If that's how you feel, then go!” I shook my head quickly, gripping his hand tightly. I wasn't sure why I was doing this, but it felt like part of my plan. He didn't pull my hand away; instead, he started to gently stroke it. His calloused hand brushed against my skin. I felt a wave of disgust wash over me.
