Riley didn’t say anything until we were outside in the hall, the door swinging shut behind us.
“Jax,” she said, her voice soft but unshakable. Her eyes searched mine, fierce and steady.“You are not what she says you are. Do you hear me?”
My throat tightened. I couldn’t speak, so I just nodded.
“She’s wrong,” Riley continued, her hands coming up to grip my jaw, forcing me to look at her. “You’re more than enough. For me. For yourself. For the life you’re building.”
I swallowed hard, my vision blurring at the edges. God, I wanted to believe her. I wanted to soak in every word until it replaced every scar my mother had carved into me.
