His Halo is a Lie
Peace was harder than war.
War, at least, had rules. You fought, you bled, you killed. And when the smoke cleared, you either stood or you didn’t. Simple.
Peace was messier. It was waking every day and choosing restraint. It was watching men stare too long, listening to the city whisper your name, and forcing yourself not to answer. It was knowing you could destroy them all in a heartbeat, but turning away anyway.
It was harder than any battlefield I’d ever walked.
