The shattered circle crumbled, its symbols dissolving, and Agnes’s song broke, its melody a cry of defiance. The fragments merged, not with the group but with the Hunger, forming a figure—not of starlight, not of fire, but of red, its body a blaze of every essence consumed, every world devoured. “You cannot carry what I am,” it said, its voice a chorus of their own, twisted into hunger. “One must feed me, or all will.”

He explained while kissing my shoulder. “What does it taste like for you?” I softly asked him while closing my eyes. He took a long time to answer and I was patiently waiting. “It's... difficult to explain. It's unlike any other food or drink that humans have. Blood for us is like.. a drug. A drug that's found everywhere around you. It makes you stronger, faster, more in control. It's the sole thing we need to survive and it's hard to control the bloodlust that comes with it. It's easy to lose control and lose yourself to bloodlust. You just want more.. all the time.” He explained and I cracked open an eye, seeing him deep in his thoughts.

“Not everything. But sometimes… I get flashes. Pieces of us. Pieces of who we were in another life. And in those pieces, we fought the hunger. We resisted it. We were different.” Different. The word echoed in me like a plea. My chest ached, my breaths shallow. I wiped at my eyes clumsily with the back of my hand, whispering so faintly I wasn’t sure if it was to Titi or to myself, “Can’t we just… not crave blood? Can’t we stop it before it begins?” Titi’s growl rumbled in my head, trembling, aching. “You don’t understand. I need it. I can already feel the hunger clawing at me. It won’t let go.”

He looked like he was about to say something, but he was cut off when he started coughing violently. He spat out a mouthful of blackened blood. It made for a gruesome sight against the white carpet. Felix stared at the blood in disbelief before he jerked his head up to look at me. "Why?" I set my wine glass down and looked down at him from the tip of my nose. "I'm just fulfilling my responsibility as a mother." Felix's eyes widened when he finally registered my words. The wolfsbane worked quickly, especially since Felix had been caught completely off-guard. It didn't take long before he crumpled to the ground.

Hunger is a monster. It sinks its claws into my gut, gnawing, tearing, devouring me from the inside out. My body is shutting down, drained of strength, stripped of any ounce of power I once had.
