She slaps a hand over her mouth, horrified at herself. “I mean— not like—well you are—oh my god, can we pretend I never said anything ever—” I can’t help it I laugh. It’s a real one. One that’s a startled, low, and warm. It loosens something in my chest. She peeks through her fingers. “I, uh… came up to show you memes,” she says. “About us.”

”* The internet tore her apart instantly. Brian looked at the screen, then at me. “Should we get popcorn?” he asked. I grinned. “Absolutely.” ***************************** By noon, the internet was on fire. Like actual wildfire. Everyone was dragging Monica like she insulted the whole world personally. Memes. Tweets. TikToks. Edits with clown music. Side-by-side photos of her fake smile next to horror movie characters. Even people who didn’t know her started joining the fight. And the funniest part?

#BlackwoodMeltdown was number five. The videos were everywhere. Dozens of angles of my screaming, my collapse, my desperate pleas to be left alone. And the comments... God, the comments were vicious. "She's literally insane lol" "Someone needs to get this girl some serious help" "When you're so desperate for attention you fake a breakdown " "Maya Blackwood is the poster child for what happens when you give damaged girls too much attention" The memes had already started. Screenshots of my face mid-scream with captions like "When you realize you have to take responsibility for your actions" and "POV: You're not the main character anymore."

Oliver: I would deal with it if I got to lick you. Sidney grinned again and felt herself blushing in the glow of her laptop screen. As she typed with Oliver, she continued to scroll through comments—a blend of generic hot comments, menstruation jokes, and clickbait advertising. She tallied the reactions in her head. This picture had already attracted more attention than their previous photo. She shared some random horror memes, retweeted from her favorite followers, and commented on horror groups in Facebook. She marched through her evening routine. As she processed the comments and emails from her website, another conversation notification rang.

It didn’t take me long to figure out what was going on—Jaxon was going viral. “This is going to be fun,” Kade chuckled and then kissed my cheek. “I’ll see you later.” I watched him disappear and then kept walking. I stopped in front of a locker to peel off one of the stickers. It was a cartoonish meme of Jaxon, complete with exaggerated wide eyes and a speech bubble that read: "Bidding $5000 on an ex? Obsessed much?" I scoffed, shaking my head. The next one was even worse—"Jaxon’s Punch: Weakest Move of the Year."

Mark said pretty much excited and before I could say no, he was out of sight, "Hmm" I sighed softly,I miss her, I missed her so much. If wishes were horses, if only wishes were horses. After changing back into her regular clothes, Scarlett scoured the internet for memes that were funny or relevant enough to share on her social media. It was a full-time job, taking up more of her time than homework, but somebody had to drudge through the sea of endless posts to pick out the gems. There were a lot of memes about men, due to the trending hashtag #notallmen. Scarlett steered clear, careful not to take a stance one way or another. She couldn't deal with people arguing on her posts. The only valid response was a laughter emoji.

Me crossing the room, leaning in to kiss Kyrian on the cheek and the one second I stayed, paused and stretched into many seconds. I scrolled past it and the headlines were something else entirely. “Mila, you’re a saint!” Then, he pulled out his phone. “Look at the group chat. It’s exploding!” The group name had been changed to ‘Care and Support of the Clown Werewolf King,’ and it was flooded with merciless mockery. Someone had photoshopped Sarek’s face with clown makeup and captioned it: [So I came after. I’m a homewrecker.] There were even meme videos titled, “The Werewolf King’s Breakup Survival Guide.” Louis laughed so hard his whole body shook. “Hahaha! That’s brutal!”

And now, the internet was having a fucking field day. Noah stopped pacing, long enough to grab his phone again, thumbs flying over the screen as he scanned the endless floods of comments on his innagram. I sucked my teeth, irritation clawing up my throat. “You need to stop reading that shit.” He snapped his gaze to me at that, and I’ve never seen such pure anger in his gaze. “Do you know what they are calling me? Have you seen the fucking memes they’ve started to make about me? I’ve spent my entire life--?”
