Darkness fell over the courtyard, heavy and complete, like it had been waiting to take its place.
My chest tightened as I stepped back, my pulse racing now, my mind trying to catch up to what was happening.
Something fast, moved behind me. I turned, but it was too late.
The shadows rose from the ground, twisting and pulling themselves upward into shapes that didn’t belong in this world. Their eyes glowed faintly through the darkness as they locked onto me, and this time, there was no mistaking what they were.
