J Level Books Novels & Stories

The library felt like a gift, and that was what made it dangerous. I moved slowly along the shelves, trailing my fingers across the spines of books. The contact sent a faint shiver through me, not pleasure exactly, but recognition. Something inside me loosened, not relief and not comfort, but a thin strand of control I had not realized was missing. The titles were familiar in tone if not in detail. Business. Finance. Strategy. Leadership. Negotiation. The kinds of books men like Jaden collected to justify their decisions after the fact, volumes that framed dominance as intelligence and conquest as foresight.

“Before you decide to give up on the story, you should read the next two books in the series.” “Where did you get those from?” Jo asked quietly as she looked at the small stack of books. “Probably the same place that you got that one. Little library up on the second floor.” “Yeah.” She admitted and gave a little blush. “That’s my library.” “I thought that it might be Shelby’s book.” “Nope. Shell is a card-carrying member of the audiobook and podcast book club. I’m pretty sure that if she had to actually read something not for school, she’d probably burst into flames.”

He fluttered his eyes and gazed at the book instead. “Why do you say it’s Dracula? ‘Zalmoxis’ is a Dacian god from what I know.” “You know this book?” she asked, surprised. “Yes. I read extraordinary books as my pastime, too. I am interested in other topics besides those given at school. So, why do you think it’s Dracula we’ll meet?” “It is because I constantly hear his name in my head.” Elise just stared at the book she was holding and spoke again.

And I was determined to fix that. I found him in his room, door slightly ajar. For once, Robin wasn’t there. Julian sat on the bed, a worn leather book in hand, one I didn’t recognize. “I didn’t know you could read,” I teased, slipping in without knocking. “You busy?” He looked up, smirking. “Nah. Just… thinking. And for the record, this is a combat book. I’m a beta, remember? I need this stuff.” “Oh, so you only read books about violence,” I said, hopping onto the bed. “How adorable.”

She was also hidden in my backpack when I applied for the job in the local library, I always had a weak spot for the books and stories, when they took me I couldn’t be happier. My job was easy and simple, just help people buying their stories, cash them out, put the books back in place and finally I can read as much as I want. It was the best kind of job for me, I loved it and I got paid weekly, enough to eat, after my first paycheck, I had spent a full week starving,

“It doesn't seem like it if she said I kind of look like him. Is he my father?” “No.” She said. “Like I said it was just a fling she had.” Jade decided it was best not to press the matter anymore, she went back to looking through the books on the shelf. She found one she liked, titled “Legends of Hewsen Era.” “Can I have this one?” Jade said flashing the book cover to Darla. Darla looked at the book and shook her head. “You're not going to let the legend go, are you?”

“I saw flames—a ring of fire surrounding me. The flames were touching my skin, but they didn’t burn me.” Loud gasps left the lips of the other stunned students. They seemed confused, just like Damon. Professor Steve’s eyes narrowed with interest. “Flames, you say?” He took a step closer to Damon, who was still processing what he had seen. “Damon, close your eyes again. This time, I want you to imagine flames in the palm of your hand. Focus on the heat—the energy. Let it flow through you.” Damon swallowed nervously but did as he was told. His heart raced as he shut his eyes, concentrating on the image of fire in his palm.

I had no witty remarks, but I managed to say, "It happens." WTF? Seriously? He grasped the last book that was little beyond my current reach and handed it to me as we both stood. "So, what's it like being in ROTC?" he asked conversationally. We dropped the 'J' when speaking of the school's junior army unit. It was too much of a mouthful. I was stunned that he actually wanted to talk with me. Me. Little Miss Nobody. At least at this school so far. I was a junior and have been in JROTC for a couple of years now. I have plenty to say about the subject.

He gazed at Selena with his head tilted. “Ha ha, you don’t even know what a picture book is!” Juniper teased. “But I really don’t know what it is. The teacher at my house doesn’t teach us with such books. My brother’s books, in particular, are really thick. It hurt badly when it hit my leg.” “Oh yes, Jamie and Jojo are both incredible, Mommy! They know a ton of words, and they can even read a whole book!”
