It was the bass-heavy rattle of massive speakers being tested downstairs, shaking the glass windows of my bedroom. I flinched, dropping my highlighter. The noise stopped, followed by the muffled sound of heavy footsteps walking down the hallway outside my room. I crept toward the door, unlocking it and cracking it open just an inch. The hallway was dark, but the light from the grand staircase illuminated Jace walking past. He was wearing a black Halden Athletics hoodie now, a gym bag slung over one broad shoulder. Was he actually working out just now? At midnight? As if sensing my gaze, he stopped dead in his tracks.

Red’s friend Maya climbs up on the bar stool next to me, flagging the bartender down to order a drink. “Who?” “Oh please, like you haven’t been able to keep your eyes off her. Three vodka and oranges…” She orders before moving back to the daughter of the Red Thorn Alpha. Both females move to talk to Jace but his mood only continues to sour as he downs another shot and moves away from the bar, heading towards Jaxon. I watch on as they exchange heated words, arguing about something. They never argue. Jace tries to move past him as Jaxon tries to talk reason with him, holding him back by his shoulders.

The other man grabs Stace and a scuffle breaks out. “Get your hands off me,” Stace snaps. A punch is thrown and I screw up my face as I slowly get the gun out. “Vikinos wanted you alive, but I don’t care for that. You are better off dead.” Stucco growls. “Fuck you,” Stace yells as he connects a hard hit to Stucco’s jaw. He staggers back and then regains composure and runs at Stace and they fall to the ground.

“Yes! I knew it! With that whole dangerous, moody, might kill you for looking at him sideways vibe he has going on, I knew he had to be good in bed.” I laugh and say, “What does that have anything to do with sex?” “Trust me, the level-headed mentally stable guys are always boring in bed. It’s just a fact of life. Guys who are hot, mentally stable, and awesome in bed do not exist. You can only have two out of the three.” I think about this and realize that so far her theory checks out. Jace is hot and mentally stable but definitely not good in bed, as I’ve recently discovered and Kane is hot and good in bed but definitely has issues that I know I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of.

When she got home, Jace was waiting patiently for Ann. He was sitting on a high chair while doing something on his laptop, located on the bar table near the kitchen set. He wore a casual t-shirt with a v-neck and black shorts. His stocky calves were attractive in Ann's eyes. Jace wore anti-radiation glasses that made his face look smart and full of charisma. Jace looked up when he saw Ann's arrival. He smiled. "Hi, Ann. Did you have fun with Jax?” Jace asked as if he could guess what was going on.

They lack humanity and empathy. Dealing with them is like calling onto dead. In all things, never involve yourself with the Lucado if you want to live a very long time. How does Jace get mixed up with the Lucado? How in the world did he happen to know Nickolai? None that it matters. The most important thing is that I must get him out of there. I need to bring him back. He belongs here with me and nobody else. He is mine. "That's it, I am taking a flight to Italy tomorrow, have the men ready," I command.
