I turn back to look at him, and Sage's eyes drift to his figure almost immediately. My lips part to speak, but before I can, Alex talks. “I have a feeling you're intentionally attempting to sabotage my attempt to qualify for the Clan Convergence, Alpha Adrian.”

Their cries were drowned out by the snarling of guards as they were dragged away. Alex didn't even flinch. At the healer's temple, he sat still as stone, eyes like frost, watching the red moon pass outside the stained glass. Days later, his elite trackers returned. They shoved the missing wolves onto the obsidian tiles of the hall. Their knees hit the ground with a crack. Alex lit a cigar, the tip glowing like an ember in the dark. "Why did you run?"
