"Please, don't hurt him," I whispered as I looked at Blaine. Blaine kept staring at the guard, his eyes worried. I could see how much he wanted to jump in and save Mateo, but couldn't. He finally met my eyes. How I wished I had the power to mind link like the wolves...
"And you, put your gun down," the guard said to Jace. "You are not going to save your prince. Not today."
"Joren, you fucking asshole, he is my Prince, and protecting him is my duty. I won't put the gun down," Jace said, and his body shook. I had never seen Mateo's guard so angry. He always had a pleasant demeanor.
