And froze. Her smile vanished. The man standing there looked very familiar. Too familiar. The same smug expression. The same arrogant eyes. The same man from the boutique. The same man who had splashed mud on her clothes. The same man she had rubbed mud on. Emma stared at him in horror. No. No way. Jackson stood and walked toward him. “Miss Emma Jones,” he said, “this is your new boss, the CEO of Draxen Group, Mr. Jerry Whitmore.”

I picked up the call hoping he'd give a reasonable excuse as to why he refused to come into work, even though he had a very important meeting today. What if he was abducted by some goons? What if he was really stuck in traffic? What if he developed a sudden illness? Or what if his girlfriend caught him cheating and decided to kill him? At this point, I was just looking for excuses to justify his absence.
