I picked up the call hoping he'd give a reasonable excuse as to why he refused to come into work, even though he had a very important meeting today. What if he was abducted by some goons? What if he was really stuck in traffic? What if he developed a sudden illness? Or what if his girlfriend caught him cheating and decided to kill him? At this point, I was just looking for excuses to justify his absence.

Suddenly my heart beat faster. He was really there, seriously standing in front of everyone. Is he really my boss now? Shit! What will happen now?
