She heard chairs shuffle and feet stomping as angry grunts echoed in the room. "We control the decision of the entire pack district, and just because your packs have decided to go independent does not mean that you can decide to do things like this and expect that we would not react!" a council member said angrily. Our mate?? Whose mate?? Why was Alpha Jacob here, and why was he getting along with Damon? Mia had so many questions, but before she could hear more, she heard footsteps coming toward the vent. She stood up quickly. Just then,

[Erica] "I am your what?" she asked, bewildered. Mates? the only meaning of the word 'mate' that she was acquainted with was when people addressed each other jovially. "Mates are supposed to be our soulmate who is just made for us," Jade clarified before either of the two men could speak. She was done with them fumbling and flailing with half-baked explanations. Erica was thankful to her for her prompt replies. "I am his...what?" she repeated dumbly. Drake made an unhappy sound in his throat before settling back into the chair. She turned to him and glowered at him. Here she was, being told things that she believed existed only in fairytales and her brother was already getting impatient.

Instead of offering assistance, he humiliates Jerick and his sister, showing no concern for his fated mate, Carrie. "And my sister says he shamelessly cheated on her when they had a disagreement. Who does that? I've never found my mate, but even I know better than to turn to another woman when things aren't right with my mate. What a jerk!" Jerick said, sounding bitter. I couldn't figure out why Jesse treated his mate so poorly or why he continued to hurt her after coming back into Carrie's life, especially given all the harm he'd caused. I had many questions, but Jerick's explanation helped me better understand the emotional pain Carrie was experiencing.

I asked one question after another and I really can't wait to hear the answer. "That we were a thing before, everyone in the pack really thought that we were gonna be mates but then when we turned 18, we found out we weren't mates and I found my mate a few days later," Jenna explained to me while Ryker is just quiet and seems to be focusing too much on driving.

It suddenly clicked. I shook my head. There was no way in this world that it was possible. Mira would never be Jeremy's mate. How did it even happen. "The fetish woman?" I asked for confirmation. Jeremy nodded his head. He placed the glass of wine in his hand on the table after taking a sip from the cup. "Yes," he replied after sucking his mouth. "The fetish woman is my mate, and she has succumbed to the mate bond." I scoffed.

Jackson spoke up in confidence, shocking them again. "How?" Kendrick asked with gritted teeth. "The mate bond. Nothing is more powerful than the mate bond for mates. Now, let's see if she can feel it with you or me. With whoever she feels it, she is his mate." Jackson said with a smirk, confusing them once again. They both looked at each other before looking back at Jackson.

Jake misses the joke entirely. “Alpha Kane is good-looking and stuff, as the alpha of my pack but imagine what it would feel like being one of the mates to the Kincaid brothers? Goddess, they are so hot. Especially Neo… and Connor and Shane. They could rip me in half and I would still say ‘more please’. Do you think they want one mate? Like they share a mate? Everyone keeps on telling me that I should stop being a jerk, I should stop being so sad, so angry, I have to just get over it, I have to be okay with everything, but I wasn’t okay with any of it, none of it made sense to me, no matter what’s going on, no matter what happens next.
