The creative floor is dark except for the single desk lamp burning in Julian’s office. Jamie is bent over the large light table in the corner, sleeves rolled up, hair falling into his eyes as he makes final adjustments to a motion graphics sequence for a client pitch tomorrow morning. "Trevor, get her some water first. She needs to calm down and relax." Trevor promptly fetched a glass of water and handed it to me. Lena squeezed Aurora’s hand once before leaving reluctantly. Shadow growled softly before following Mira out. Soon only Aurora and Kael remained. And somehow the silence afterward felt unbearable. Aurora could still feel the silver light burning beneath her skin. Weakening now. But still there. Kael stood directly in front of her.

He returned to the bedside and picked up the half-peeled apple, acting as if nothing had happened. However, I noticed his hand trembled slightly as he peeled the apple. It betrayed a trace of fear from what had just happened. "Does your hand hurt?" The words slipped out before I even realized I'd spoken. Damien's head snapped up, eyes bright with sudden delight. "N-No, it doesn't," he replied, shaking his head vigorously. Then he held out the peeled apple to me, his eyes full of anticipation. I hesitated for a moment before accepting it and taking a small bite, savoring the sweetness.

He simply smiled with a look of relief. The apple rolled to the ground, picking up dirt. From the start, Zach had been provoking Jessica on purpose. I looked at the blood spreading on the ground and at Zach's collapsed body, then at the frail and blind Jessica. I understood it all. This was Zach seeking redemption using Jessica. At the very end, Zach seemed to see me. His eyes were pleading. "Annie, now that I did this, will this make you feel any better?" As my own body faded, I realized this might be the last thing I would ever say. I looked right at him and gave a cold, cruel smile.
