She was clutching her chest, her eyes wide with a reflected purple light. "It’s crying, Mama. The sky is crying again." "The mirrors," I whispered, realization dawning on me. "The 'Solstice' mirrors are still in orbit. We broke their alignment, but we didn't deactivate their power source. They’re still drawing energy from the sun, but without the Director to guide the beam, it’s just... bleeding into the atmosphere."

Gripping my hands around the metal plate on Jordan’s ankle I close my eyes, picturing the sun again. Feeling its warmth rising inside of me again I push the feeling into my palms and I open my eyes. I watch as my palms glow a bright yellow and orange mix and I feel the metal heat beneath my hands. “Ah f**k!” Jordan screams out as the metal begins to melt against his bare skin.

The chair has never moved in any direction like it has been fixed here. Sitting on the chair, I finally understood why she loved it here. My mouth half-opened as I gasped, seeing the beauty of the sun slowly hiding in the sky. The shutting out of light exploded the sky with vibrant colors of orange, golden-yellow like Izobel’s eyes, and red, looking like fire like what I was feeling for her.

Elara’s POV~ I had seen many skies. But I had never witnessed a sky bleeding. Not like this. The sun had broken. Not shattered—perhaps. It was as if a large black disk had appeared between the sky and earth and covered the light until it shattered soundlessly. And in the air, hung in the center of it all. A black sun. It radiated no heat. Only gravity. It pulled everything toward it. Even us. I stumbled forward. Then Jasmine caught me before I fell.
