I made a snide comment. "We don't need to use any torture methods on you; we've already acquired a means to contact him. Did Jack mention Dr. Mark Bowen by any chance?" My face was probably as white as a sheet because Ezra grinned. "Jack is smart, I'll give him that much but he's also a human being like anyone of us and humans are bound to get exhausted when they reach their limits. In Jack's case, there was a minor slip up. He contacted Bowen in an emergency and the number lit up like a Christmas tree. That's all we needed."

I smiled a little as Cornelius apologized for him then left the table after him. A few minutes later they both returned to the table in good spirits as Delphina and a maid started to serve dinner. “I am sorry. I forgot the rule about no business talk at the table. Please forgive me.” I nodded at him and so did Jensen who was just sitting next to me with his arms crossed staring at Felix. I placed my hand on his leg under the table and he looked down at me. I mouthed to him to behave and he started to calm down. I don’t know why he was upset, maybe he felt it was disrespectful the way Felix acted. I didn’t ask and he was already calmed so we enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere became peacef

When he does, I’ll be right here waiting. An hour drags by. I’m scrolling through my phone when it suddenly buzzes with a message from Echo. Need you at church. ASAP. Fuck. I don’t want to go. I type back quickly. Can I join through video? I’m a little tied up right now. Ten minutes later my phone rings. I answer and the video call pops up. The second I see the screen, I freeze. “What the fuck happened?” I ask. Jinx is sitting there with fresh blood smeared across his face and shirt.

The chain was adjustable, allowing Aqua to wear the pendant at just the right length so that it rested over her heart. As she wore it, Aqua noticed the stone's clarity, reflecting her calm and balanced state of mind. Whenever she felt at peace, the pendant remained clear and pristine. However, when her emotions stirred, the pendant would change. A slight hue of blue appeared when she felt sadness, while a warm golden tone emerged during moments of happiness. If anger or fear took hold of her, the gemstone would darken, turning a deep, unsettling black.

She saved my name as Five on her phone and changed everyone else's name to numbers,” Six explained to him. “That's genius,” Five chuckled. I started, “Thank you! At least someone gets that it's “lame.” Six finished off. I sent him a glare. “Ignore him, Rochelle. He will forever have a stick up his ass. It’s an honor to meet you, Five smiled. “You too, Five, though it boggles me why you people go by numbers,” I replied. “When Six is ready to tell you, everything else will fit into place,” he said.

Why don’t I like this guy? Jinx runs to the coffee table and sniffs. Drool strings from his mouth as his eyes flicker between the food and Alejandro, waiting for the command. Any signal to attack the pizza. “Just our emotional stability,” Jesse teases. “And Axel’s last two brain cells,” I toss in, because I’ve had enough brooding for one night. I grab a slice of pizza and pat the couch. Jinx rests his chin on my knee, quivering with restraint, watching, waiting. His nose in the pizza, puppy eyes on Alejandro.

I stepped entirely inside his guard, grabbed the lapels of his pristine white silk suit, and drove my forehead directly into the bridge of his nose. Bone crunched. Kaelen cried out, dropping the plasma blade as blood poured down his face. I swept his legs out from under him, sending him crashing hard onto the marble. I grabbed him by the collar and began dragging his limp weight back toward the central transit hub. "Jinx! Do it!" I screamed. "I need ten seconds!" Jinx yelled back. She was entirely exposed, standing at the control pedestal on the metal platform, frantically ripping wires out of the console and splicing them together with her bare hands.

Jinx wasn't in danger yet but if he didn't show in the next minute or so the healer might have to get proactive. Trips in and out of the Underworld were complicated even for the most seasoned of auric power users.
