As rain started to fall, I belatedly remembered how the weather forecast said it would get colder later in the night, and maybe even start to snow. Once it starts snowing in Atlanta, it never seems to stop. I used to dread winter, but Lucas would always wrap me in his coat several sizes larger than I was, keeping a warm blanket available in his car just for me. Looking back now, those moments of so-called happiness were never meant to last. As the rain poured harder, strands of hair stuck damply to my forehead, and my steps wavered almost to the point of collapse. I shook my head and let out a bitter laugh. How did my life end up like this?

I smiled proudly to myself as we got up to leave. Conor told me to stay put while he went into the kitchens to get something. Bart and Joanne decided they were going to rest now that they had such a great time in the snow. Joanne looked really tired as she snuggled up to Bart. All that fun wore her out. I made a portal for them. We said our goodbyes as they left to relax. I closed the portal and waited patiently for Conor to return.

I muttered as I climbed into the passenger seat of the car. "No non-pack wolves allowed. Jonas's orders." He started the car and I was finally on the last stretch home. The journey back to Haven Falls had felt endless, unlike when I'd left. Leaving to visit Jess my anger and frustration had easily propelled me through the flight, coming back my fear and longing seemed to make time drag.

The first snow of the year had arrived on Christmas Eve. I'd assumed there would be no snow this year, but looking at the snowy landscape, I couldn't help but let out a soft gasp. Jason smiled, ruffling my hair. As I'd already pushed myself past my limit today, he promised to take me out again tomorrow when the snow had settled. She recognised several of the accents spoken by her team members, placing them to different cities within the country and from the side glances that people were able to give each other, they all implicitly knew, through their silent communication of looks and facial expressions, that they had all been abducted and were conscripted into this sick project.
