She laughed, the sound bright and real and slightly disbelieving herself. “Stop. I love you. Do you mean that?”
Her dress was a sin. Red, strapless, cut high enough to be illegal in three states. She looked like power and trouble wrapped into one.
“You’re absolutely stunning.” I grabbed her hands and meant every word. She looked radiant under the red lighting. Her whole energy was looser, freer, delighted at being seen differently.
