Brígida blinked, surprised… and flattered.
“I’d like that.”
They sat at a table farther back. The conversation flowed too easily: they talked about the town, the heat, the slow business at the bakery. At no point did Henrique push for intimacy. On the contrary, he listened more than he spoke, observing every one of her gestures.
At one point, Brígida mentioned Juliana, her recent marriage, and the pregnancy.
“She seems really happy,” she said with a smile.
Henrique simply nodded, without probing further. He didn’t want to seem too curious. Not yet. But every detail was stored away.
