June didn't even look up. "I'm making dinner, watching trash television, and enjoying my peace." She pointed a spoon at me. "You, however, are going." "There's no reason to sound so excited." "Because this is exciting." "It isn't." "It absolutely is." June finally looked up and smiled wiping flour from her hands. "Stop worrying. You look beautiful. His parents are going to love you."

For now, at least. Still seated around the small kitchen table, eating toast and making lazy plans for the day. June suggested hitting up the local bookstore, and Harper mentioned something about the farmer’s market being open. I found myself laughing more than I had in weeks, trading bad jokes with June and rolling my eyes at Harper’s terrible puns. Even Liam let out a smile a few times, though he mostly stayed quiet, sipping his coffee like it was the most serious thing in the world. At some point, June kicked my foot under the table.
